Happiness and freedom, Life

A life worth living?

IS LIFE REALLY WORTH LIVING?

Lost in the canyons of disillusionment, where the trail runs out and stops against granite barriers that walls us in, we cry “why hast thou forsaken me?” ~Ernest Holmes 🌹🍀

We live in times of great uncertainties. Never before had the human psyche been so overwhelmed by torrents of unprecedented catastrophes, such as we now witness daily. From starvation to extreme poverty, natural disaster, disease, war and cold-blooded genocide. It looks like the world as we use to know it can no longer be the same.

Obviously, something the greater majority of people are yet to grapple with has stepped into the world, and unless we speedily come to terms with it, we know not what will be. Worst case scenario: mankind stands a risk of being entirely wiped out!

Already for a long time, all nerves are excessively frayed, there is a feeling of helplessness, utter dejection and a sense of separation from life. Exactly as with a stranger in his own home, man no longer feels welcome in this abode that has nurtured him for so long. Added to this is the not so friendly silence of life, a silence so loud and deafening, as to be totally intimidating! In short, the silence leaves many in doubt as to whether there is a supreme intelligence which governs the universe or not. It appears the only thing earthman is sure of is this silence.
The immediate effect is the disquiet in the souls of men. Is there really a God? Or is the whole idea of consciousness a grand illusion? To answer this question is same as answering the fundamental question of human existence.

A belief in God or Over-Soul or Mind or Cosmic Intelligence or the Light-Father, is nothing other than implicit confidence in the Wisdom that brought everything about. Let’s take it for granted that only a negligible few among humans can still in this age assert that life, such as we can see and observe around us is the offspring of chaos rather than planned Intelligence. Yet, intelligence is not intelligence for nothing, Intelligence is Divine wisdom – omniscience. Beauty and harmony are its natural attributes. It is perfection.
Perfection however, is permanence in the strictest consistency, which precludes the possibility of errors. Any attempt to suggest or imply the existence of errors is proof of a lack of understanding, a distancing of oneself from true knowledge.

The greatest thing to know, it seems, is the awareness that Life is Perfect. This is what I refer to as the grandest of all premises! The most solid of all foundational agreements. If we can find a way to agree that life alone is absolute, truly, humanity would experience instant total rebirth! Every other ‘perfect’ reality exists as a molecule or microcosm of this absolute reality. Man can become faultless, yes, but that can only be accommodated within the limits of his own species, he can never on account of his faultlessness become as his Creator. God’s perfection can in no way be compared to the full completion of men!

Thus, we live in a flawless universe, with incorruptible laws maintaining order everywhere.  We have free will, which is the capacity to make free and unhindered decisions. This free will naturally goes with the responsibility to accept the natural outcome of our choices, good or bad. At the beginning, we are free to make only those choices which will create the outcomes or results we want, but having made the choice, we are bound to the outcome, and must experience it, pleasant or not. Right choices produce favourable and good results, wrong choices produce sorrowful outcomes.
Our problem is that we either deliberately make so light of this law of cause and effect, or we deceive ourselves when we say we have no freewill, creating in our imagination instead a God who fits into all our expectations, whether we are right or wrong. But God is not at all to be held responsible for our laziness, incomprehension or woes. His Perfect and Good Will is sufficient for a life of constant happiness. It ought to be our duty to find out well on time what this Will of God is, and adjust accordingly.

The solution to our sense of separation from life does not lie in false reassurances about how amazing or awesome we are, or could be, when in all truth we swim in utter wretchedness, it lies in a humility which accepts the truth as it is. Jingles and catchy phrases soon lose their effect the moment we are through reading or hearing them.

We cannot heal ourselves by our sick selves. Not any more. The deadly virus has eaten too deep into the soul of mankind that every attempt at self healing would crumble from the outset.
We urgently need the knowledge of the eternal laws governing this creation. Perhaps, the Creator did make a manual by which his creation should be examined and, understood.
Life is a gift worth living, the moment we discover who we are and what place we are meant to occupy in its level playing field. Then we must go ahead and fill our place. It is one thing to know that there is a purpose behind your existence, it is another thing to fulfill that purpose. A gift not used has been rejected. We reject life each time when, instead of being fully alive, we lament and complain and play the victim’s game.

We must therefore awake and start asking the right questions. Even in an age of digital information overload, we can gain a lot and transform quickly by being humble seekers. Not until we finally agree that we know next to nothing of that which can be truly useful for us, can we awake.
